South America Latin Pop Rock cd design

Posted May 14th, 2009 in Uncategorized by fernando

I created this cd cover design for a young latin pop rock band- located in South America. I had fun designing this one because they gave me a collection of adjectives describing their music/style and it was easy to bounce ideas of those descriptions. I used a combination of adobe photoshop and adobe InDeign CS3 to compose this piece.

AWOL Heavy Metal Rock CD Cover Design- Aurora, IL chicago

Posted March 5th, 2009 in Category Uno by fernando

Heavy metal rock cd cover design. The concept of this was to create a semi morbid, mysteries, and gritty cover design. I started off by just showing the hands coming out of the fan blade but then later added the peering eye in the background. This cd cover went through quite a bit of changes, there was another cd cover design with a different style initially- but I worked closely with the art director to come up with this final design. This is a Canadian heavy metal rock band, I also did the rest of the package design, however I’ll post those up later. CD Design is a fickle art, sometime a design will be a homerun and other times I think I have a great design and the client just doesn’t like- it’s a subjective thing this art.

DVD Cover and disc design. The dvd package design goal for this project was to create a look that would appeal to a younger demographic.
I implemented bright colors and active illustrations. The client was very happy with the final product- and it successfully achieved the goal of appealing to a younger crowd- as he is now selling many dvd copy’s- thanks to a certain dvd graphic designer.

CD Cover Design Illustration- Housewife Broadway Musical Art

Posted October 3rd, 2008 in Category Uno by fernando

Since this album is titled “Not just a Housewife” I thought it fitting that it should not be just a design- so I approached this project as an illustration. Since the artist did not want her photo on the cover I had to come up with a conceptual cover design that embodied all the songs on here cd release. The artist’s name is Marilyn Mathis- she’s a multi-talented actress and broadway singer. I came up with the idea of her living a double life as a stepford wife and as a superstar in the spotlight at the same time. I went for a retro 1950’s style of housewife, I added the floral pattern on the curtains to compliment the simplistic illustration style. Hip Hop CD Album Cover design- Buried Treasure Rap Compilation

Posted August 8th, 2008 in Uncategorized by fernando

This is the cover art for a hip-hop compilation album. The client said they really wanted to accentuate the 2.0 so I dropped it on the cover like giant bricks- can’t get more prominent than that. I grunged up the letters a bit to give them a worn out look- like it’s been through the test of time and it’s still big and bold. I then added the shovel on the side to compliment the words “buried treasure”. I used a little bit of adobe illustrator and photoshop to complete this work. Enjoy.

Rock and Roll Album CD Cover design- Heavy Metal CD design- Angel Statue Revised

Posted July 15th, 2008 in Category Uno by fernando

Here is a revised version of the angel statue. The client wasn’t convinced he wanted the model used on the first angel- he wanted something more “breastly”- so this is what I came up with- I’m pretty happy with it. I made this image using adobe photoshop, stacking layers upon layers of effects and filters.

Graphic Designer Illustrator CD Cover Design Heavy Metal Rock

Check out this photo I converted into a cement statue- I used a few textures and filters in photoshop to create this effect. It took me a little over an hour to do. Basically I cut out the angel from the photo, grayscaled her, cleared out her eyes to make them look a solid color, applied some cement/granite textures over her and set the layer to multiply or overlay- i don’t remember which one exactly, then applied the rusted/aged cement orange in select areas, added the column on which she sits, and a falling feather to insinuate she recently was real or will become real very soon, and finally added some breaks and cracks to give it an aged effect- vuala! you got your self a c-ment angel.

I welcome any questions or critiques- thanks for stopping by.

Christian Music CD Design- Graphic Designer: Christian Rock

Posted January 9th, 2008 in Category Uno by fernando

The name of this album is “View from Hear”, there’s a play on words so I tried to do the same visually- the client and I went through various drafts before deciding on this design. The genre of music is Christian Rock, the goal was to not hit people over the head with Christian symbolism so I approached it with a neutral design first and then sprinkled subtle spirituality through out- Vuala. Below are a collection of stock photo’s I used to create this piece. Also below are other cover designs created for this project that didn’t make the cut. They were all created using photoshop. As you can see they all use a similar color palette which was specified by the client- I think that they’re all very nice but of course I have a bias. Greatness!

CD Cover Illustration: CD Design Cover Art- Star Wars

Posted August 15th, 2007 in Category Uno by fernando

CD cover illustration design for a hip hop rap artist based in New York. This cd cover illustrates a character representing the rap artist’ persona. A custom cd cover illustration takes considerably longer than a cd design based on the musicians photographs because it requires composeing the cd package design entirely from scratch. I completed the illustration for this star wars/hip hop cd cover. I used adobe illustrator for the color and line work, and added some texture in photoshop. The client was very happy with it. I’ve never really illustrated anything in this particular style- but I’m pretty proud of how it turned out. It’s another notch in my arsenal of styles. Notice the Darth Vador silhouette in the background.

Once upon a time… in a Galaxy far far away, there was an illustrator who dared to combine the forces of Star Wars and Hip hop. This is a fun illustration I’ve been working on. Below is a preliminary pencil sketch for an album cover playing off the theme of Lucas’ Celestial Opera- as you can see he’s reaching for his mic which is his “light saber”, getting ready to slash somebody creeping up behind him- he’s also sporting a jedi cape and in the background a little green dude (Yoda) is rocking the turntables. I’ll be posting the updated artwork soon- stay tuned.
