I designed the graphics for this Spanish Rock cd cover art a few weeks ago. This heavy metal band from Spain hired me to create the art for their newest album release titled “Teoria De Cuerdas” which in english means “String Theory”.
They had a specific idea for the art direction of their cd art, they just didn’t now how to visualize it- so they gave me a collection of band photos and adjectives that described what they wanted in the art and then I went to the drawing board.I came up with the concept of blending their individual band photos with intricate fractal designs- and it worked out great because it incorporated the “string theory” concept- visible in all the fractal threads and strings. The cd package included a 12 page booklet, I created individual fractal/photo designs for each band member and added their name and instrument. The art panels were placed adjacent to song lyric panels.They’re currently on tour in Spain promoting this album and they’ve been receiving a lot of praise and positive response to the cd design as well as their music.

This is the front side of a 4 panel cd insert, which is the cover (on the right) and the inside cover (on the left). The band wanted a design that reflected the album release name- “Road to Nowhere” so I created the scene from a collection of photo sources and added rain with photoshop. The tornado was actually not part of the original concept, at first there was a city scape back there and menacing clouds only, but I felt it lacked dramatic effect- so then I tried the tornado in the background and it worked perfectly. I later started adding objects in the air around the tornado like cows, tractors, houses and other random debris- but it made it look to comical so I toned it down a bit and only kept the blurry debris.
For the band photo on the left- i cut the band members out adjusted the levels on the photo to enhance the light and dark values- this gives it a more dramatic effect, and makes the photo look more rugged. I also added the worn out rock texture on the background along with the bands name painted graffiti style on the wall.

This design is for a christian rock band- the concept is that the hands are tied but are also creating a shadow puppet of a bird spreading it’s wings- conveying the album title “escape”. The hands are meant to be Jesus’ Christ hands. The aged textures and colors really solidify the setting of this design.

This blue beast cover illustration was a second cover design option that was not chosen- I had this image in my head when i read the album title was escape- although it looks there is little chance the running man will escape this over grown cookie monster. I created the illustration using adobe photoshop and my digital wacom tablet pen. Enjoy

Above is a cd cover design I composed using various photo’s and design elements. The idea is to convey a “matrix” like feel to the illustrated environment. The left side is a corporate skyscraper and to the right a decrepit ghetto alley.

Hello all, above is the revised illustration of the cd album cover I’ve been working on. I switched over to a more sketch-like style and a fashionista look for the characters.

Hip Hop in the Hizzy my Nizzy. This rapper went from zero to hero with the Nando-matic Insta-Design 3000. This is an album cover for a southern hip hop artist. The client wasn’t sure which picture he wanted for the cover so I composed two different versions. You can see the original photo’s I was supplied with and then I enhanced them through the magic of photoshop. You can click the cover designs to enlarge the view.

This is a cd cover design I’m working on, i originally created the black and white one but then had the urge to render a color version. Now I can’t decide which one I like best. The album title is “Live Forever” so I came up with the concept of a tree/hand since tree’s convey the idea of age and growth and the tree branches are holding the sun to symbolize that it’s in control of the days hence living forever.

The two revised cover designs above are additional color comps I created, the possibilities are endless. Which one’s your favorite.

I recently designed this cd cover for an upcoming album release “A Collectors R&B Dream 1968″. From left to right: James Brown, Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder. It was kind of surreal to work on a project containing such musical legends.
