Cornhole Anyone?

Posted August 10th, 2007 in Category Uno by fernando

The Walter Payton Roundhouse just started a cornhole league and needed a logo to make it official. Here’s my first attempt at the logo design- I took a literal approach to the idea of cornhole, fyi- it’s actually a game in which you throw bean bags into a box with a hole in it- pretty simple, but additively fun. I first did a pencil sketch of this and then traced in with Adobe Illustrator.

This is my second attempt attempt at the logo design- it’s a bit more competitive. As you can see the NBA, NFL, and MLB stoled my idea- but that’s okay I’m flattered. The client ended up going with this logo. I like it but I thought the first one was funnier. Cornhole anyone?

I recently went to Starved Rock Park in Southern Illinois. My girlfriend and I took these photo’s. It’s a beautiful place to visit, there are many bluffs, canyons and caves to see. You can see all the photos here.

Bullet Head

The trick is to make the spider web and glass look like one element. If you look closely you can see the image of a face within the web/glass. I had fun illustrating the bullet, at first I designed it with the shell still attached but of course that wasn’t accurate. Notice the cool speed waves bending the air around the bullet. The bullet rendering is a combination of what I’ve seen in the matrix movies and the “Freak on a Leash” music video by Korn. Comments are welcomed.

Wicked

Mr. Wicked wanted a “Harry Potter” like look and that he got. I came up with these two different cover designs. The photo is reminiscent of the classic hard rock days- it was fun to work with. Which one do you like best?

Rock Quotes

Two bands were going on tour and in need of some artistic goodness to promote their 58 day escapade. I successfully managed to design this poster with all the information contained in an orderly manner- with out becoming cluttered. I’m digg’n the handy rock quotes at the bottom.

Vintage Cartoon Type

The goal of this project was to convey a kids album using only type- with the feel of the popular cartoon “Fairly Odd Parents”. I aimed for a vintage cartoon feel with a modern twist.

Logo Designer- company identity Graphic Designer Midway

Posted June 22nd, 2007 in Category Uno by fernando

Graphic designer: Logo designer is a title not easily relegated to any designer, there is a lot of corporate identity research involved. I created this logo for an Midwest IL Electric Company (formerly owned by the late Ernesto Pacheco Sr.) I liked my initial idea so I went a head with it- I’m pretty happy with the final outcome. The logo was used for business card designs, letterhead designs, company vehicles, and printed/embroidered onto employee uniforms, it was also printed on a soccer jersey because “Midway” was one of the sponsors. Rest in peace Ernesto Pacheco Sr. You can see their website here.

Burn This Cover

Posted June 21st, 2007 in Category Uno by fernando

I recently designed this cover for a rock band. It’s not finished yet- the final cover design will probably differ a lot from this one. I took some inspiration from old 1950’s-60’s rock concert posters. Notice the good angel bad angel action up above. I’ll post the completed cover design when it’s ready- stay tuned.

Per the clients request- I revised the cover to make it look more antique. I kept the good/bad angel theme and added an old world map for the background. I’m also designing a poster based off the album art.
